UPPER DIR: The Glacial Lakes Outburst Flood (GLOF-II) project of UNDP held a ceremony at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal, to mark the National Resilience Day on Saturday.
The objective of the event was to commemorate the martyrs of Oct 8 earthqauke and express solidarity with the bereaved families.
GLOF-II project is sponsored by green climate fund and implemented by UNDP, federal ministry of climate change and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
Representatives of UNDP’s GLOF-II, PDMA, pro Vice Chancellor and registrar Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal, huma-nitarian organizations, academia, students, Rescue 1122 and civil defence officials attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Hamad Baig from GLOF-II said, “on this day we aim to raise awareness on the devastating impacts of climate change induced disasters with a special focus on disaster resilience.”
He said that considering the fact that Pakistan is ranked as 8th most vulnerable country to extreme weather events on the Global Risk Index, working towards building a disaster resilient Pakistan is a key priority.


The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, also observed the National Resilience Day at hte university in remembrance of the martyrs of October 8, 2005 earthquake.
Assistant commissioner Muhammad Yaar welcomed the participants and briefed the audience about the relief activities during recent floods and rains. – Bulletin
