Peshwar-Chitral highway blocked at Darosh to demand arrest of killers of two people of Shahnagar Chitral.

CHITRAL: The people of Darosh tehsil in Lower Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa blocked Peshawar-Chitral highway for the second time in a week to demand arrest of the killers of two villagers of the Shahnagar area.

The protesters blocked the road to all kind of traffic at Dodan village in Darosh tehsil, resulting in huge traffic jams.

According to eye-witnesses, hundreds of passengers are facing difficulties as protesters staged a sit-in on the road at Kuldam Gol, blocking it to traffic for seven hours, demanding arrest of the killers of the two people who were murdered in Shahnagar on Wednesday last. The victims, Ashraf Ali and Ehsanuddin, were killed while they were fetching firewood from Shahnagar forest.

At that time, the people of the area kept their dead bodies on the road in Darosh Chowk and closed the Peshawar-Chitral highway to all kind of traffic. Later, sub-divisional police officer Darosh Iqbal Karim assured that the accused would be arrested within 48 hours after which the protestors cleared the road.

Despite the deadline over, the accused were not arrested and the people once again gathered at Kuldam Gol Chowk on the call of Village Council Shahnagar chairman Waqar Ahmed.

The protesters again staged a sit-in on the Peshawar-Chitral road and kept it closed to traffic for seven hours. They said that the police had failed miserably to arrest the killers. The protest was participated by the leaders of all political and religious parties.

The speakers said on the occasion that the recent incident seemed to be a conspiracy to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Chitral.

The protesters also chanted slogans against the police and the district administration. Later, the district administration, while negotiating with the protesters, assured that the accused would be arrested within two days and their houses would be demolished.
