ACC deliberating over moving Asia Cup matches from Colombo due to rain
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is mulling shifting matches in the Super Four round of the ongoing Asia Cup from Colombo to other venues including Dambulla or Pallekele as wet weather looms over the Sri Lankan capital, according to media reports.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the tournament.
Colombo is scheduled to host five games in the Super Four round as well as the final.
On Saturday, the promising thriller between Pakistan and India was abandoned after one innings of play as rain played spoilsport in the Group ‘A’ contest between the heavyweights in Pallekele.
According to media reports, officials from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had confirmed they were considering alternative venues in Sri Lanka where relatively drier weather was forecast.
The wash-out of the Pakistan-India match had prompted “fresh conversations between the ACC and the broadcasters Disney Star,” the report said.
Meanwhile, according to Indian media outlets, the teams have been apprised of the weather situation in Sri Lanka’s capital and Pallekele and Dambulla were understood to be looked at as alternate options. The reports said that the ACC was deliberating moving Colombo matches to a different venue. – Web Desk
