ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR: The federal government has designated 26 out of 35 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as terror-hit, approving a 250 per cent “extraordinary security allowance” for police and civil service officers serving in these districts.
The allowance, according to a communique issued from the establishment division to the KP chief secretary, will be 250% of the basic pay of police and civil service officers.
The communiqué reads that the “KP Extraordinary Law, Order and Security Risk Allowance” will be admissible to Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) and Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) officers serving in the 26 designated districts.
The districts declared terror-affected included Peshawar, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Kurram, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Upper South Waziristan, Lower South Waziristan, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Bajaur, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Upper Chitral and Lower Chitral.
“It is further stated that district Swabi and entire Hazara Division comprising Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Kolai-Palas, Upper Kohistan and Lower Kohistan districts are excluded for the purpose of admissibility of subject allowance,” reads the communique.
The federal government requested the KP government to proceed further in the matter for payment of the allowance effective from July 1, 2026.
Earlier on August 18, the establishment division wrote to the KP chief secretary that the federal government had approved the grant for PAS and PSP officers serving in the “seriously disturbed KP districts”, in terms of law and order and the danger to the officers and personnel of administration and law enforcement agencies.
It reads that the allowance will be 250 per cent of the running basic pay of the officers and that it will be admissible only to PAS and PSP officers in the districts categorized as seriously disturbed.
“Establishment division will notify the districts where this allowance will be admissible, on annual basis, at the start of each financial year. The allowance shall be discontinued upon transfer of the officers from the notified districts,” it reads.
