The departure of millions of Muslims from across the world to the holy land of Hijaz in Saudi Arabia for the performance of the sacred obligation of Hajj presents a deeply spiritual scene. It not only reflects Islamic brotherhood but also serves as a powerful reminder of the universal principles of peace, tolerance, and shared humanity. This year, Hajj is commencing at a time when the Middle East is gripped by intense tensions. The ongoing confrontation involving the United States and Israel against Iran has put global peace at serious risk.

Against this backdrop, the significance of Hajj becomes even more profound. It is not merely a religious obligation but also a practical manifestation of unity within the Muslim Ummah and a message of global harmony.

In recent days, the partial restoration of flight operations and the regular commencement of Hajj flights from Pakistan have emerged as a positive development. The departure of pilgrims from major cities reflects that, despite regional risks, the performance of religious duties continues uninterrupted.

The rescheduling of flights and the resumption of Hajj operations by international airlines such as Qatar Airways, Emirates, Saudia, Kuwait Airways, and Oman Air indicate a well-coordinated and organized strategy. The Saudi government and relevant institutions consider serving of pilgrims their top priority. These arrangements not only ensure a smooth beginning but also send a positive message to Muslims worldwide that, even in difficult times, traditions of religious harmony and hospitality remain intact.

However, behind this spiritual landscape lies a harsh reality. The prevailing war-like situation in the Middle East, actions against Iran by the United States and Israel, and the resulting disruption of global supply chains have plunged not only the region but the entire world into economic and political crisis. Rising oil prices, closure of trade routes, and increasing uncertainty have shaken the global economy. In such circumstances, the gathering of Hajj serves as a reminder that the world needs cooperation, not confrontation.

At this critical juncture, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership has attempted to play a responsible and active diplomatic role. Efforts by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshall Gen Asim Munir to mediate, support dialogue, and maintain continuous engagement for de-escalation reflect Islamabad’s intent to contribute positively to global peace.

The philosophy of Hajj teaches us that humanity can rise above distinctions of race, color, and nationality to unite as one. The gathering of millions in a single attire, for a single purpose, is a powerful demonstration that all human beings are fundamentally equal and should live together with peace and mutual respect. This message is more relevant today than ever before.

There is an urgent need for global powers to rise above narrow interests and prioritize the broader good of humanity.
